BATON ROUGE, La., March 24 -- The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries issued the following press release:

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Inland Fisheries Division has cleared approximately 750 acres of the nuisance aquatic plants giant salvinia and water hyacinth on Turkey Creek Lake in Franklin Parish since the summer of 2008.

LDWF biologists on the lake discovered large amounts of giant salvinia mixed with water hyacinth in the summer of 2008. LDWF took immediate action to contain the plants by constructing a floating containment boom across the upper western arm of the lake called "Little Break."
