ALBANY, N.Y., March 13 -- Assemblyman Michael Gianaris, D-Astoria (36th District), issued the following press release:

Assemblyman Michael Gianaris (D-Queens) received assurance from New York Power Authority Chairman Richard Kessel that NYPA will close the Charles Poletti Power Plant in Astoria, Queens by January 2010. Assemblyman Gianaris sent NYPA a letter[1] last month requesting the authority to confirm their intention to comply with the community agreement to close the area power plant, after hearing from many sources that there were plans to keep it open beyond the agreed upon January date.
