ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 27 -- Kevin Duane Johnson of Cary, N.C., Ivan Neil Liverman of Middlesex, N.C., Eric Allen Stegner of Durham, N.C., Robert William Stegner of Raleigh, N.C., have developed a locking member for pallet ramp safety retainers. The inventors were issued U.S. Patent No. 7,478,985 on Jan.20.

The patent has been assigned to International Business Machines Corp., Armonk, N.Y.

According to the abstract released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method and apparatus are disclosed for locking at least two safety retainers together. Each safety retainer has a pallet-attached base and a ramp-attached mating bracket. ...
