Limited visibility is a challenge for any boat owner. These systems and tips can make it easier to run in the dark.

The main channel into Connecticut's Mystic River from Fishers Island Sound is a tide-infested, rock-flanked winding passage. Although buoyed, strangers are advised to enter with caution, even at the best of times. But because Mystic River is the seafaring heart of New England, its denizens (myself among them) believe we have special dispensation to arrive brazenly and at any time of the day or night - the reward of local knowledge, we tell ourselves.
