BOSTON, May 8 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Coast Guard, 1st District office, issued the following press release:

The Coast Guard and state boating agencies continue to warn spring boaters, paddlers, sailors and fishermen on northeastern inland and coastal waters of the dangers of cold water and sudden cold water immersion.

"Plain and simple, if things go wrong on the water and you're not prepared for the immediate shock of sudden cold water immersion, your chance for survival is greatly reduced," said Al Johnson, the recreational boating specialist for the First Coast Guard District in Boston.
