FDIC reform action in the Senate Banking Committee was a possibility through late July, according to Independent Communty Bankers Association Chairman A. Pierce Stone, but if it emerged it wouldn't look like the comprehensive measure passed by the House, he suggested.
Reporting to members of the Community Bankers Association of Kansas at their annual convention last month at the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, Mo., Stone said the committee chairman, Sen. Paul Sarbanes (D-Md.), had indicated he might have allowed a markup by late July, but it wouldn't include a hike in insurance coverage to $130,000, as provided in the House bill and as hoped for by the ICBA.
