Article: Rep. DeFazio Introduces Consumer Price Index for Elderly Consumers Act

WASHINGTON, May 15 -- Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Oregon, has introduced the Consumer Price Index for Elderly Consumers Act of 2009 (H.R. 2365), legislation that would "require the establishment of a Consumer Price Index for Elderly Consumers to compute cost-of-living increases for Social Security and Medicare benefits under titles II and XVIII of the Social Security Act."

The bill, introduced on April 29, has 20 co-sponsors. It was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee, Energy and Commerce Committee, and Education and Labor Committee.
