In the introductory chapter, Drs Sharav and Benoliel outline their goal of integrating the diagnosis and management of orofacial pain and headache across the many involved disciplines. Initially, the book focuses on common orofacial pain characteristics, including diagnosis, anatomy and neurophysiology, and psychological aspects. The authors organize subsequent chapters by the etiology of pain. A chapter on acute orofacial pain focuses almost entirely on dental causes of pain.
