WASHINGTON, July 9 -- The office of Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, D-N.J., issued the following news release:
The Senate Appropriations Committee today passed an amendment authored by Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) to the Fiscal Year 2010 State and Foreign Operations funding measure that would legislatively overturn the "global gag" rule and protect women's health. The amendment passed by a vote 17-11 after contentious debate.
"It is time to end the dangerous and harmful global gag rule permanently. Health care providers across the globe should be able to care for the health of women and families, without ideological obstacles blocking the way. This amendment will strengthen America's position ...
