Nobody walks into the Calgary offices of the National Energy Board expecting a barrel of laughs. After all, these are serious people with a serious job to do. Nevertheless, it is a pleasant surprise to learn that NEB Chairman/CEO Gaétan Carón is a Real Human Being, gregarious and personable. He's not your stereotypical cardboard-cutout bureaucrat, and that's reassuring.

Despite unprecedented demands on his time, Mr. Caron is well-liked by his staff and seems relaxed and happy in his work.
