SANTA FE, N.M., July 17 -- Gov. Bill Richardson, D-N.M., issued the following press release:
Governor Bill Richardson today signed an executive order, lowering state flags in honor of Sandoval County Sheriff's Deputy Joe Harris, from Tuesday, July 21st through sundown on Wednesday, July 22nd. Harris was killed in the line of duty on Thursday; he was a 27-year law enforcement veteran.
"First Lady Barbara Richardson and I offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. Joe Harris," Governor Bill Richardson said. "Sgt. Harris was a loyal and dedicated police officer who sacrificed his life on behalf of his fellow citizens. He will be remembered as a hero."
