Papules on scalp, trunk could be rosacea

Philadelphia - Dermatologists need to change their reflexive thinking that rosacea only occurs on the face, says Guy Webster, M.D., Ph.D., professor of derma- tology at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia.

"When doctors see pimples on the chest or back, we tend to think it's acne without considering other options," Dr. Webster says.

This presentation is rare - just how rare, no one knows, according to Dr. Webster. He estimates that his own rosacea caseload includes only one or two patients each year. That's not enough fbr a cohort; consequently, little, if any, research has been conducted on the condition.
