Article: WOMEN'S GOLF KEEPING BUSY OVER SUMMER

MACOMB, Ill., July 2 -- Western Illinois University issued the following news release:

The Western Illinois women's golf team won't tee off for its 2009-10 season until Sept. 13, but the Fighting Leathernecks are finding ways to pass the time in the interim.

Coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen and several of her players have been involved in helping teach area youth the sport of golf through a program called First Tee. The program, which has been at Western since 1999, gives kids the facilities and instruction necessary to learn the game while helping them develop values such as honesty, integrity, respect for tradition, etiquette, sportsmanship, self esteem, self-discipline, confidence and work ...
