Article: Corn has lost its sweetness!

Colombo, July 29 -- Leisurely nibbling on a roasted maize corn has turned into a drab activity nowadays. Thanks to the tastelessness of the corn. The fascination for biting on the corn or 'bhutta' has seemingly decreased as the hybrids robbed the corncob of its sweetness.

Unlike in the neighbouring districts of Karimnagar or Nizamabad, maize was never eaten as food by citizens of Adilabad district. Consumption of bhutta in its roasted form was only a pass-time activity and hence it was cultivated only in the backyards of rural homes until the hybrids arrived about two decades ago.
