Colombo, July 29 -- Fishermen in Mirissa area yesterday staged a protest demanding the authorities to take action against racketeers who use illegal fishing gear and cause extensive damage to fisheries resources. More than 200 fishermen participated. They stressed that the fisheries resources in the sea off the southern coast would be soon extinct if the use of the prohibited Purse -Seine net ( Hembili Del) was allowed to go on unchecked.
