Article: NEW MEXICO ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETINGS AROUND U.S. ON DRAFT PROPOSAL FOR OUTSTANDING NATIONAL RESOURCE WATERS IN FOREST SERVICE AREAS

SANTA FE, N.M., July 21 -- The New Mexico Department of the Environment issued the following news release:

The New Mexico Environment Department will hold a series of public meetings to provide information to stakeholders on the draft proposal to nominate waters within wilderness areas of the U.S. Forest Service as Outstanding National Resource Waters.

The department released the draft proposal last month on the designation, which will help to protect water quality for activities within the national forests and important downstream uses such as irrigation and public water supplies. The designation will help ensure that those waters remain clean for future generations.
