The House approved a measure to expand eligibility for National Guard burials in Arlington National Cemetery.
Sponsored by Rep. Bob Stump, R-Ariz., the Arlington National Cemetery Burial Eligibility Act, or H.R. 4940, would allow burial at Arlington for Guard and Reserve members serving at least 20 years, but who die before retirement. It has been referred to the Senate for consideration.
In late 2001, the House approved a bill that would allow burial at Arlington National Cemetery if the deceased would have been eligible for retirement pay in the future, but the Senate has yet to act on it. Stump's measure is similar to the House's earlier version, but adds the 20-year ...
