SIXTY YEARS AGO

The death toll in an earthquake in Ecuador was estimated today by officials at 9,241. Deaths in the town of Ambato alone were said to have reached 5,000.

Brandon, with other centres in Western Canada, suffered from the heat over the weekend. The top for the year was reached yesterday with 99 F, just one degree more than the day before. The most popular spots yesterday were the bathing beach and the swimming pool. Moose Jaw, Sask., reached a high temperature of 107 F.
