Orange County lost 70,800 jobs in June from a year earlier, a 4.7% drop to 1 .4 million workers. Unemployment hit 9.2%, up from 8,8% in May and 5.2% a year earlier. Employment was stable with no job losses from May to June.

Former Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox is joining the Costa Mesa office of Bostonbased Bingham McCutchen LLP. Cox, who headed the SEC for President Bush from August 2005 to the change of administration in January, is set to be a partner and shareholder in the firm. He starts Sept. I.
