Article: HAINAN AIRLINES PLANS SECOND U.S. GATEWAY: HONOLULU

BEIJING, China, July 30 -- Lt. Gov. James R. Aiona Jr., R-Hawaii, issued the following news release:

Hainan Airlines, China's largest non-state owned airline, has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation and Hawai'i Department of Transportation to operate the first nonstop scheduled service from The People's Republic of China to the Hawaiian Islands. Once approved, service between Beijing, China and Honolulu, Hawai'i will operate once a week beginning this fall, with a specific start date to be announced. Hainan plans to eventually increase the frequency of the Beijing-Honolulu service up to three flights a week as demand builds.
