NEW YORK, Aug. 11 -- The New York City Comptroller issued the following press release:
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. and the New York City Pension Funds are urging four Fortune 1000 companies to adopt policies to specifically ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
To date, 74 companies have agreed to adopt the changes based on requests from Thompson and the City's Pension Funds. This year alone, 18 have agreed to do so, eight of which already barred discrimination based on sexual orientation and have now added language to include gender identity.
