Very few films are absolutely perfect, but North by Northwest (QFT from August, others TBC) is one of them. Hitchcock's most enjoyable film - but by no means his least interesting - is a beautifully engineered thriller that excels in every department. Cary Grant effortlessly flaunts the star quality that reminds you exactly why he's Cary Grant, while Eva Marie Saint enchants in her first screen role. Boasting a plot that is both preposterous and utterly captivating, Ernest Lehman's impeccable screenplay is filled with great lines and double crosses, as well as a rather famous scene with a crop duster.
