CARLSBAD, Calif., Aug. 20 -- The city of Carlsbad issued the following news release:

The Carlsbad Municipal Water District has approved a plan that establishes how purified ocean water will be delivered to the city and the region as soon as 2012. The Carlsbad Desalination Project is being built by Poseidon Resources Corp.

Under the approved delivery plan, desalinated water will be distributed to all parts of the city served by the Carlsbad Municipal Water District. The plan also will enable Carlsbad to continue to receive imported water. Having access to both water sources provides more flexibility in how the district manages its water supply and makes the overall water supply more reliable.
