Wind power is the fastest growing source of energy for the generation of electricity with some 18 000 MW of wind turbine capacity installed world-wide. Commercially available large wind turbines have rotors of up to 80m diameter with generators rated at 3MW. Small offshore wind farms are now being constructed and there are detailed plans for 1000 MW offshore projects. In the context of these rapid developments, this new book describing the design and economics of large wind turbines is to be welcomed.
