Brad Broecker and I sit inside on wrought-iron chairs softened by pillows. Through the back windows of his home, the swimming pool's surface is dimpled by summer rain falling fast and furious.

At 70, Brad has a life just like he wants. He and his wife, Carla Sue Broecker, live in a brick home they built on her grandparents' horse farm in 1967 and have added to over the years to suit their changing needs. An informal dining room here, an office there, a sitting room and bar, and finally, a floor-to-ceiling glass gallery for their collection of English pottery. The gallery also serves as a spot to hold fundraisers and comfortably entertain large groups of people.
