Downey Selected As Finalist for Tesla Motors Electric Vehicle Plant Downey, CA, August 27, 2009:The 80 acre Downey Studios complex, which is located on the former NASA site in the City of Downey, has been chosen as a finalist location for the Tesla Motors electric vehicle manufacturing plant. Tesla Motors will be utilizing $365 million in low-interest loans from the U.S. Department of Energy for the production and assembly of the Model S, an all-electric family sedan that carries seven people and travels up to 300 miles per charge.
