DURANGO, Colo., Aug. 28 -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture's U.S. Forest Service unit - San Juan National Forest - issued the following press release:
The East Fork Road (NF System Rd 667) on Pagosa Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest opened to full-sized vehicles today at noon.
In May of 2008, a large landside was reactivated in the East Fork area. The landslide was roughly 40 acres in size, 600 feet wide, 3,500 feet top to bottom and moved a few feet each day. The slide directly affected the East Fork Road, which was moved approximately 100 feet downhill from its former location. The road has been closed to full-sized vehicles since the slide occurred.
