SANTA MARIA, Calif., Sept. 4 -- The city of Santa Maria issued the following news release:
Many agencies clean waterways in the fall prior to the first flush of rain that washes debris and pollutants downstream. The City of Santa Maria has partnered with Santa Barbara County for "Project Clean Waterways" to clean litter and debris from some of the County Flood Control District drainage channels that run through the City.
Volunteers from local clubs, service groups, and the community at large are invited to participate. This not only removes litter and debris from our neighborhoods, but keeps it from being flushed into the Santa Maria River when the winter rains begin.
