MIAMI, Sept. 10 -- Florida International University, a component of the state university system, issued the following news release:

A Florida International University laboratory that tests materials to make sure they comply with Miami-Dade County's strict hurricane-resistant building code will get a boost in its efforts to keep the community safe.

Titan America LLC, the premier cement and building materials producer in the eastern United States, on Monday will present a $250,000 gift - worth $500,000 with state match - to support the FIU Structures and Construction Testing Laboratory in the College of Engineering and Computing.
