PITTSBURGH, Sept. 15 -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued the following news release:
The Department of Environmental Protection has reached an agreement to resolve all litigation in connection with the 2005 Forward Township, Allegheny County, ash slide and its related 2006 subsidence incident on State Route 2007, locally known as River Hill Road.
An embankment adjacent to River Hill Road, made of coal ash deposited decades ago, collapsed on Jan. 25, 2005, and temporarily dammed the stream at the embankment's base. When the ash dam failed, water carried the material through the valley and onto Rostosky Ridge Road, a residential street.
