For 49 years, Isaacson Structural Steel has been an important employer in the North Country. The steel fabricator became an even more critical player in Berlin when paper companies began closing in 2006 and mill jobs began disappearing.
As Groveton Paper closed and the Berlin paper mill laid off people, resulting in the loss of more than 400 jobs, Isaacson both maintained and added to its workforce. It was at that time thoughts of expanding its steel fabrication facilities turned into action. "We thought if we could do the expansion here, we could hire local people," says President Arnie Hanson.
