To achieve its nationwide source reduction and recycling goals for food residuals by 2001, an integrated approach will include smallscale drying/composting units, large-scale composting, anaerobic digestion and animal feed production.
N KOREA, waste management traditionally has relied on treatment or final disposal methods such as landfilling, rather than incineration or composting. However, along with other countries, Korea has been experiencing siting difficulties for landfills. A goal was set to decrease reliance on landfilling by increasing both recycling and incineration rates to 35 and 20 percent, respectively, by 2001.
