In 1713, the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language was founded in Madrid with the objective of stopping Gallicisms and oilier corruptions threatening the Spanish language. The stated purpose was to "clean up, define, and give splendor" to Castillian Spanish.

Years later in 1726, the six volumes of the Diccioumio de autoridades appeared.
