In a ceremony steeped with tradition dating back to the beginning of the chief petty officer rank, 68 Sailors at Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana received their gold anchors and khaki covers as they officially joined the CPO ranks Sept. 16.

"Building new chiefs is serious business. It's important to our mess, to our Navy and to our Sailors," said Oceana's Command Master Chief Robert Santiago, who served as guest speaker.
