Sri Lanka, Sept. 30 -- One Sri Lanka record was established in the 1500 metres race for men on day two of the 87th National Athletic Championship continued at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.
Chaminda Wijekoon the dynamic middle distance runner from the Army ran a well paced race and led all the way to the finish. His new Sri Lanka record was only a split second better than the previous record set by Wijekoon himself.
His new time was 3m 43.80 seconds while he previous best was 3m 43.82 seconds set in 2005 in Colombo. Wijekoon walked around tirelessly even after finishing the race in a new record. He said that he could run more.
