The other day at a tasting, a woman asked which of the wines being served were made by superstar Californian winemaking consultant Helen Turley.

CAPTION: Why?

"Because I love her style of wines," was her simple and concise response.

This really made me think a bit. It wasn't that long ago when winemaking consultants were far and few in between. Today, especially in certain areas such as Tuscany and Napa Valley, consultants are on the rise.

So, who would I recommend if asked? A lot depends on where in the world we are talking about.

FOR CALIFORNIA, Napa Valley seems to have its fair share of consultants with projects undoubtedly worth checking out.
