GENEVA, Oct. 08 -- Andrew Ishak, the U.S., has developed a dual-filter ophthalmic lens to reduce risk of macular degeneration.
The patent has been assigned to High Performance Optics Inc., Roanoke, Va.
According to an abstract posted by the World Intellectual Property Organization, "An improved dual-filter lens for protective eyewear that combines a first filter for blocking essentially 100 per cent of UV light, and second filter for filtering blue light. The first filter may comprise a multi-layered dielectric mirror layer or Rugate filter, and the second filter may comprise dye-impregnated lens layer(s) or Rugate filter.
