Large companies eyeing state's dense population for services
CONTINUED MERGER and acquisition activity in the water industry is on tap, industry insiders say, with New Jersey serving as the focal point of two acquisitions in the past three months. About half a dozen other deals are in the works, as larger companies in the highly fragmented industry acquire smaller operators of water systems.
New Jersey also figures prominently in the industry, since two of the biggest companies in the business have their headquarters here - American Water, in Voorhees; United Water, the US. subsidiary of Paris-based Suez Environment, in Harrington Park.
