Article: ADVOCATES STAND UP FOR ABUSE VICTIMS

FORT CARSON, Colo., Nov. 3 -- The U.S. Army issued the following news release:

It's a subject often hidden from family, friends and neighbors, but staff members from Army Community Service are shining their lights into the dark corners of domestic abuse.

The goal of the Family Advocacy Program and its four victim advocates is to prevent domestic abuse, but if abuse does occur they are in the victim's corner.

The victim advocates take steps to prevent family violence by speaking to all Soldiers during their in-processing at Fort Carson. The advocates also give annual domestic violence awareness briefings to units, said Shanika Rose, victim advocate.
