SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 5 -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif., issued the following news release:

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the following appointments:

Roy Ashburn, 55, of Bakersfield, has been appointed to the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education. Since 2002, he has served as a member of the California State Senate, representing the 18th District. Previously, Ashburn was a member of the California State Assembly, representing the 32nd District, from 1996 to 2002 and the Kern County Board of Supervisors from 1984 to 1996. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Ashburn is a Republican.
