ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 7 -- Aaron R. Goldfeder, Cem Paya and Frank M. Schwieterman, all from Seattle, Wash., Rajeev Dujari and Stephen J. Purpura, both of Kirkland, Wash., and Darren Mitchell of Woodinville, Wash., have developed a method for protecting internet users' privacy policy. The inventors were issued U.S. Patent No. 7,614,002 on Nov. 3.

The patent has been assigned to Microsoft Corp., Redmond, Wash.

According to the abstract released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A system and method that evaluates privacy policies from web sites to determine whether each site is permitted to perform operations (e.g., store, retrieve or delete) directed to cookies on a user's computer. ...
