National Center for Economic Development to receive $2 million in federal funding

HATTIESBURG - Economic development may not be as well known as other fields of study, but it has certainly put the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) on the map.

USM established its reputation for excellence in economic development with its pioneering master's degree in the 1980s, and in 1999 the Department of Economic Development (DED) was created within the College of International and -Continuing Education (CICE). It was the first such academic, graduate program in the field, and USM is the only Mississippi university offering courses in professional economic development.
