IN this volume, Gary Gallagher looks at aspects of the Confederate experience, focusing here on varying perspectives of Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia. Several pieces in this collection of essays have been previously published (though edited here to reflect themes of this volume), and others are new. The book is divided into three sections: (1) "Lee's Campaigns," (2) "Lee as a Confederate General," and (3) "Lee and his Army in the Lost Cause."
