Disk disease in cats

In this study, the clinical features of intervertebral disk disease in 10 affected cats were reviewed. No gender or breed disposition was found, and the average age of the cats at presentation was nearly 10 years. Clinical signs varied in severity and included thoracolumbar spinal pain, difficult ambulation, and urinary and fecal incontinence. Most clinical signs were acute and nonprogressive. The cats had no known episodes of trauma and were kept indoors.

In six of seven cats, cerebrospinal fluid evaluation results were normal. In nine cats undergoing radiographic examination, a narrowed disk space was the most consistent feature (n = 7). Myelography isolated the lesion ...
