Article: City defends seizing Pullman firehouse

Despite the hue and cry from Lyn Hughes, the founder of the A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum, the City Council Wednesday approved seizing the property.

Department of Planning and Development Comm. Alicia Berg explained that the quick take acquisition "is necessary because the building requires immediate stabilization for the purpose of later rehabilitating the firehouse as a cultural center or museum to help tell the remarkable story of A. Philip Randolph and the Pullman Porters."
