Roosevelt was the president of the United States and the Allies had not yet landed on the Normandy beaches in France. There have been in-depth articles on specific weather elements that have given the how, why, and how much in a meteorological and climatological sense but nothing like the catalog of newsworthy events provided by the Schmidlins.
