Eaton Corp. acquires Swiss control firm

Cleveland-based Eaton Corp., a manufacturer of power distribution and control equipment, has bought Rheodata S.A., a privately owned company headquartered in Le Lieu, Switzerland, that makes hydraulic magnetic circuit breakers for protecting commercial and industrial electrical equipment. Rheodata, which sells the majority of its products under the name Heinemann Rheodata, employs 110 people at manufacturing plants in Switzerland and Morocco and had 1997 sales of about $13 million. Eaton's Commercial Controls Division has had a working relationship with Rheodata, through a licensing agreement, since 1992, when Eaton acquired Heineman Electric Co. ...
