Summary. A new species of Rhaptopetalum, R. geophylax, is described from western Cameroon. It is vegetatively similar to R depressum Letouzey, but differs in several floral characters.
INTRODUCTION
Rhaptopetalum Oliv with 11 species is the most species-rich genus of the predominantly African (one species in South America) Scytopetalaceae. Recently, using molecular data, the Scytopetalaceae have been shown to be embedded in the Lecythidaceae sense lato (including Napoleonaeaceae and Foetidiaceae (Morton et al. 1997)).
