Ilya Somin's Stillborn Crusade is a thoughtful and impressive piece of work, even more so considering that it originated as an undergraduate thesis. Somin reviews the historiography of Western intervention during the Russian Civil War and concludes that the world would have been far better off if the Western Allies had overthrown the Bolsheviks while they were weak.
