From Harper Hospital, Detroit-Neuromuscular blocking agents differ in their pharmacokinetic profiles, duration of onset and offset, and cost. The following protocol was designed to guide selection and optimal use of neuromuscular blockade given patient care and cost considerations. The protocol is consistent with the recommendations of the guidelines/practice parameters committee of the American College of Critical Care Medicine. All patients receiving neuromuscular blocking agents must also receive concurrent and adequate sedation and analgesia (eg, morphine, lorazepam, etc).
